"The Tango Lesson" Soundtrack
This is a great compilation despite the film score cues which are not suitable for dance (nearly every other piece). With over twenty tracks on the CD there is still plenty of good dance music

"Forever Tango" Soundtrack
This is a beautifully recorded 2 CD set. It has taken Tango from various periods and performed them in a more modern approach. The pieces vary in speeds and many are danceable. View track listing at

Tango Argentino Original Cast Recording
Soundtrack to a 1985 stage show. Dramatic more modern sounding tangos. View track listing at

Soundtrack to the movie "Tango"
by Carlos Saura, music by Lalo Schifrin: although a bit dark for my taste, it packs 22 tracks and some are suitable for dancing.

Artists

Osvoldo Pugliese
His vast collection of works are highly interpretational yet still suitable for beginners because if his slower and very pronounced "down beats". My Favourite Pugliese Album is
A Los Amigos >> . Another good Pugliese album is Ausencia >>

Carlos DiSarli
Whether instrumental or with vocals you will find that DiSarli's recordings are quite suitable for dancing, especially for beginners who desire a clear unwavering beat. Among DiSarli favourites are pieces "Bahia Blanca" and "A La Gran Muneca" which is also the name one of his albums. For an album of all instrumentals

Julio DeCaro
De Caro has written many original Tangos which have been interpreted by many. De Caro's innovative arranging style is said to have influenced among others, Osvoldo Pugliese and more recently popular new Tango group called El Arranque. Dancers will find his recordings quiet enjoyable to dance to. A good Julio De Caro album is
Tangos de Rompe y Raja >>

Some albums with vocals are danceable. For example:
Francisco Canaro's album
Desde el Alma >>
Alfredo de Angelis's album
Fumando Espero >>
Jose Basso's album
Por La Vuelta >>

Ricardo Tanturi
Tanturi's albums will either feature vocalist Enrique Campos or Alberto Castillo and are quite danceable. However, its tempos are often slightly faster. More advanced dancers will have no trouble using the many intricate walking variations to this music. RCA Club's album "Ricardo Tanturi" is good. You may listen to samples from other albums if you

BUYING TIPS
Stores carry CDs in the "World Music" section under Argentina or the "Latin Music" section. Tango movie soundtracks may be found in the soundtrack section.

Listen before buying to ensure mastering/ production quality is up to standard and that there are enough danceable tunes.

Not all music stores are savvy to tango so they buy Nuevo Tango (NeoTango) artists such as Astor Piazzolla (superb for listening but seldom played at tango socials) or they buy the right artists but purchase their less desirable recordings or pre-1940 recordings.

Avoid the fast tempos and poor recording/ mastering quality of pre-1940 recordings or "Golden Age" recordings until you are a more proficent dancer.

Listen to samples on internet CD stores (decide what artists you prefer), then purchase at your local music store or choose to buy online. Bring your list, so that if the music store doesn't carry one artist, they might have the next.
